This is the OEM / Factory set up for trailers from my 1990 FSM. Note that they used a flat-5 connector instead of the typical flat-4 plug that 99% of the known universe uses. I don't know if newer XJ's came with the flat-4... The 7-conductor schematic is typical although you'll find that some agricultural / horse trailers are wired differently.
