Installing 6.5" Speakers

Rear Hatch

Wanna yank out your old 5.25" stereo speakers and install some 6.5" speakers in the rear hatch? Nuthin' to it. All ya gotta do is trim the fiberglass on both sides of each rear speaker recess a bit and they'll drop right in and the hatch cover will go back on without a hitch.

Stop monkeying around and post the dang picture!
So I haven't posted the pic yet... email me and remind me to take the camera outside...

Front Doors

The fronts were easy enough. You'll have to pull back the door cover - removing the arm rest gives you a lot more room. Door cover just pops loose from door but those plastic doo-dads are prone to breakage. (You can find replacement "doo-dads" in the "Help" (MotorMite) section of Advance, AutoZone etc...) Remove the old rectangular oem speaker covers outta the door's vinyl (Be carefull! The backing is some kind of crappy fiberboard.) Test fit the speaker after removing the oem speakers. I had to trim off some of the door cover vinyl to clear the speaker's cone. NOTE! - Be aware that newer XJ's with the full door window glass may have clearance issues w/ speakers having large magnets! TEST FIT BEFORE CUTTING AND HACKING! More adventurous folk can mount these inside the door... BUT TEST FIT FOR WINDOW OPERATION FIRST!

If you have pics of your own repairs or can suggest other methods - please contribute your ideas (and pictures) to this article!
